ARTBattle Jan 27, 2012

On January 27 I competed in the Artbattle for Poland. The other three artists competing were Pesu , D. Mastrion , and Kevin Ragnott . It was a hot battle with a fantastic audience. Pesu and D. Mastrion’s fans really brought it, filling out the venue and chanting their names before the brushes even hit the canvases! Kevin and I had our camp followers as well. Thank you to everyone that made the journey to le poisson rouge that night as well as the over 2000 people who voted me into the battle! I really love this painting live gig and will be doing a weekly event at DIVA in SoHo on Tuesday nights.

So back to the battle! We all painted frantically having a bit less time then the normal 1.5 hours split between two sessions. Personally I felt all 4 of the paintings were super strong but veteran artbattler and live painter Danielle Mastrion took the night with her dynamic portrait of Robert DiNero in Taxi Driver. “Bang! Bang!”

Congratulations Danielle! Hold it down in Poland! (I’m also secretly thrilled the other lady won 😉 )

Words of the Prophets
Erin Cadigan 2012
Fools,” said I, “you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you”
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said “The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence
– Paul Simon 1964

(a shout out to Audrey Thanks for bringing your dancing energy to the stage! I was definitely feeling it!)

PRESS: Cupcakes and Cucumbers

Posted in Press, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , on September 6, 2011 by threeerincadigan

Today THREE Erin Cadigan was featured on the healthy life style blog Cupcakes & Cucumbers . The post is an interview conducted by blog writer, Brooke Becker on my views about running a sustainable fashion company. In the interview I answer questions about why I choose to be “green” and how consumers can identify “green” products or make purchasing decisions that positively effect the environment or workers. Here’s an excerpt from the article:

I asked Erin Cadigan of THREE to tell me her about her tee shirt company, and why she decided to keep it green.  Her response is thoughtful, and insightful:

A company’s reason for being is important. It’s something everyone should at least give some consideration to these days. As the industrial revolution has progressed from it’s early days in the 1900’s, the toll on our environment and our societies has grown exponentially. Just recently, historically speaking, has the world started to turn it’s awareness in a real way towards these problems. With the 2005 tipping point of the “green” movement; shopping green, fair trade or organic have become a welcome house hold phrases. However many companies have also taken to slapping these words on items that maybe aren’t what they proclaim to be.

DESIGN MEANINGS: Galatic Skyhole

Harbingers of Peace

The galactic sky hole is also known as the galactic center. This is the spot that the Milky Way galaxy rotates around. It is believed by scientists that there is a supermassive black hole located there. Visually it is near the brightest area of the Milky Way when viewed in the night sky. Along this bright trail of stars a dark rift may also be seen with the naked eye. Many meso-American cultures saw the “dark rift” as the birth place of the universe. Myth told of deities riding serpent ropes out of the sky center into this plane of existence.

It is predicted by the ancient Mayans, Tolmecs and Aztecs that their lord of peace, Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, would return through the galactic sky hole ushering in a new reign of peace at the end of the present age.

The present Mayan calendar ends in the Gregorian year 2012..

This does not mean the world is going to end, just as it doesn’t end on December 31 each year.

Calendars’ end.

However, the prediction of a coming age of consciousness and peace has been predicted again and again all over the world. This design shows the Milky Way forming a human heart. From the spiraling center descend celestial messengers of peace. Each rides their own deity rope based on the predictions inherent in their individual stories of peace. First is Aquarius, the water bearer, symbol of human advancement andconsciousness since time immemorial spilling behind her healing waters. Next is the Buddha, the enlightened one. There are many incarnations of Buddha who teaches the release of suffering and attainment of enlightenment, pure love. He is riding a flame in reference to the first Buddha’s Fire Sermon. Saquasohuh (Blue Star) Kachina predicted by the Hopis to signal the emergence into the Fifth World. This world will unfortunately start with WWIII but for those that survive, we will become as one race, speaking one tongue, living in peace. He rides a rope of maize considered to be a sustaining life gift from the Great Spirit. Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent,  in his mouth is the face of Pakal thought to be the last human embodiment of the peaceful deity. Jesus is the Christian god sent to earth to teach humanity about understanding, love and kindness. He is predicted to return from the sky on a trail of clouds. The supreme Hindu god, Krisna, as Balaji, the newborn cosmic child, returns in the universal deluge ending the present Kali Yuga.
